Blog 10: English Language Challenges

Hi everyone, and welcome to my last blog of English IV!!

I believe the use of blogs to learning english works as a really good educational tool and a way of growing more confident in the use of another language. I very much liked the approach Benji took on the making of the blogs, in the way of the topics he made us think about: Matters of our life, our thoughts on the future and professional plans.

I also really liked how we focused on lesser known english-speaking countries unlike United States or England. For example Grenada or Ireland, which also have very interesting stories to listen and a lot of different ways of using language. Poetry, music and every other way of expressing trough the languague that is available. On this matter, I think it’s very important to understand language it’s not a clear substance: In order to understand and study any language, you gotta’ have the conscience it all has a political and social context, with people that are making use of it on a daily basis, therefore they see the world through it.

It is interesting how differents our languages are. I mean that english is a very smart and straight-ahead way of communicating to others, compared to spanish, which I think is a very complex and beautiful language, that can be used in a whole lot of different ways.

I’ve very-well known english since 2014, when I went on to a student exchange in Seattle, but this course made more confident with my knowledges and to daring to see movies and tv shows in english, without help of subtitles. I hope i can read a book in english from now on and have a more fluent communication with english- speaking people, specially considering I now have a home in L.A., California.

P.S. I very much like the picture, since it kinda looks like Santiago <3
